At Muskogee County EMS our dispatchers go through a 2 to 3 month new hire orientation before being released to work without a certified training officer (CTO). They spend time in a classroom setting as well as hands-on training on the dispatch floor. They will be trained in CPR at the healthcare provider or professional rescuer level and must complete an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) program (or higher level EMT) prior to or within the first one year of employment.
During their training period, they will attend a 3-day Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) course. This course is provided by Medical Priority Dispatch of Salt Lake City, Utah. Muskogee County EMS is proud to have our very own Certified EMD Instructor, which allows us to host courses in Muskogee as needed.
Medical Priority Dispatch offers other courses throughout the United States.
