Applicant Pre-Hire Requirements and New-Employee Orientation Program *

Acceptable reference and criminal background checks are required for applicants to be considered for employment. Acceptable driving records are also required for applicable employment positions.

Screening tests for alcohol and illegal drug use may be required before hiring and during employment with Muskogee County EMS.

Participation in the Muskogee County EMS Pre-Hire Program is by invitation only, and consists of 2 phases.

Phase 1 of the Pre-Hire Program consists of:

1. Verbal Interview
2. Testing for Illegal Drug Use

A limited number of applicants may be scheduled to participate in Phase 2 of the Pre-Hire Program.

Phase 2 of the Pre-Hire Program consists of:

1. Written testing of general EMT knowledge applicable to licensure level (70% minimum passing score) (if applicable to employment position)
2. Physical Lifting Ability Assessment (if applicable to employment position) to include carrying and lifting of an approx. 165-pound “patient” on a back board and ambulance stretcher (with 1 assistant)

A limited number of applicants may be scheduled to participate in the New Hire Orientation.

The New-Hire Orientation Program consists of additional scheduled time for (as applicable for employment position):

1. Classroom and skills testing (approx. 5 days and/or evenings)
2. Mapping/driving orientation and testing (approx. 4 shifts)
3. Rides with ambulance staff (approx. 120 hours)
4. Communications (dispatch) orientation
5. Protocol written exam (80% minimum passing score)
6. Final mapping practical exam
